Messages from the Sky

The poem is called “Messages form the Sky: September 11, 2001″, and the author’s name is Fred Moramarco. The day that the world trade center collapsed, was the infamous day of 9/11/2001.  There are some messages from people who weren’t going to make it out alive in whatever trouble they were. These messages are brief good-byes from relatives to their loved ones. The poem is simply about messages from people who can’t make it out alive and are saying their final messages to their family. As I read the poem, I thought about how the ones hearing the messages feel and how they would’ve react if they were talking to the ones in trouble. This poem is a collection of great messages of those how had no choice but to die. This poem made me feel bad for those in trouble, but it also made me feel that those on the other line that were on the safe side had extreme luck not to be in that predicament. I had a favorite line, and this is it: From Thomas Burnett on Flight 93: “I know we’re all going to die; there’s three of us who are going to do something about it. I love you honey.” I chose this line because it explains how some people were going to do something about the crisis before they died. They probably wanted to lessen the crash impact and try to move the plane somewhere else. That showed courage in that man.

I don’t remember exactly where I was when the towers collapsed; I must have been in school in elementary. Anyways, I heard on the news about four planes crashing: one almost crashes near the white house, another in a side of the pentagon, and two in New York at the World Trade Center. I couldn’t feel anything for myself, but for some young Americans dying that way, I felt that is was awful. I mean, why would some Al Qaeda members sacrifice their own lives and take down some Americans in a hijacked plane that are navigated towards important American buildings that are filled with more people, just because it was a demand from Osama Bin Laden? This did not affect my life in particular, but it did to many relatives from those who had dead family members. I say they did no deserve it. I didn’t remember any other details from that day besides the fact that many Americans died. Thus, it still made me feel bad for those that lost a loved one.

If I were trapped in one of the four hijacked planes, I would have died with some dignity. I would’ve convinced some other captives to aid me in beating up the terrorists that prevented us to go to the flight deck and stop the suicidal pilot. I would’ve tried my best and hope that the planes would’ve come to a safe landing. Now if I was in any tower of the World Trade Center, I would’ve focused on how long it would’ve taken for the planes to arrive, and rush out of the tower downward by elevator, or if we would’ve been hit by then, the stairway. I would’ve called any family member closest to New York and tell them I couldn’t live any longer, and that they shouldn’t panic and take it the most calm way possible, that is if I could call them first. Whoever I reached the closest had to spread it to my family and let them know what happened. That is it for me, I hope you enjoyed it!
