The American Dream

The American Dream is the pursuit of happiness, as said in the Declaration of Independence. It is the need of a glorious life for you and your family, and you try to do the best you can as an American to make sure you reach your maximum point

My American Dream is not different than the dream of other Americans because we all want the best of life and we try hard to receive it. It is highly similar and we must do our best to prevent our children from suffering and make sure that they have a better life.

I don’t really have an American Dream but I surely try harder than usual to get far. Right now, I feel like I do not have one as a kid, but I will when I start college. My dream is different than my parents’ dream because they want me to go to college and pursue a great career. They came with no hope of schooling from Mexico, and hope that their children do great in the mere future.

I think the American Dream isn’t accessible to everyone because not every demand can be met. You see homeless people on the streets with no chance of an American Dream or a house, but then there are great figures that pursued their American Dream and probably went over and achieved more than others. The schooling determines how much knowledge you will get, and those that study will be better off in life.

I do not think it is easier for some people to achieve the American Dream than others because they might not start as lucky as others. Some reasons it is easier for some people to reach the American Dream are that some may be born to people who have enough wealth, or if their schooling is more fair and easy. Because this is often true, some may not reach their American Dream.

I say that the need for the best life possible isn’t limited to America, but others won’t have easy access to it either, unless it is Europe. Other nations would have a harder time to get it, like in parts of Asia, or Africa.

I believe the American Dream is still worth believing and pursuing because there is a high chance of being in a good spot if you live in America. You can still benefit greatly in achieving your ultimate goals bytrying your best.

To reach my American Dream, I have to do the best that I can. I did work on my American Dream by trying my best in school. I don’t really have an example of how I pursued my American Dream, but if I did, then I would talk about it.

I do think I will be able to reach my American dream because I am lucky to be an American and I am doing my best to get to college. So far, I am in a good spot.

Freedom and Responsibility

To me, freedom is the right to live in a world without extreme power of any sort. The right to be in the United States is a privilege and they are guaranteed freedom by the written laws.

Freedom means being able to do anything legal that you want, and you have the right to protest if you don’t agree to it, but it also can’t mean that you can do anything you want that is not right. For example, the selling of drugs is illegal, thus it can’t be done.

To me, it is more important for public security to be in place rather than personal freedom because the world needs to function with security and be kept stable. For example, when someone goes to the bank and wants to “borrow” money, they have to pay later, instead of never so that the person with the money doesn’t get a bust and he bank wins money.

I think we should be able to whatever we want as long as we don’t harm someone else. Again, that doesn’t mean we can do anything we want, but we should do most things in the world as long as someone receives no harm. For example, hunting will hurt animals, but not the human beings, so we should be able to hunt safely.

I am not free to do whatever I want because there are limitations for me to do whatever I want. The law prohibits many unreasonable things that can put a group of people in danger. For example, you can’t just decide to drop a bomb anywhere in the world for your own desire, you are limited.

I think it is not OK to ever break the law because you can get in tremendous trouble for it. It is not right to ever break the law because it can make you look very bad and you can be arrested. For example, you can’t assassinate an important person, John F. Kennedy was shot and the guy who did it had a severe punishment.

I think it is more important to stand up for your beliefs because it shows to the government what you think will improve America, as long as it isn’t anything bad. For example, protesting for health care isn’t so bad, and the government might think it isn’t a threat.

“What is an American?”

The first trait that explains how Americans are is the trait of being hard-workers. The willpower to never give up and always get back up on your feet and try harder is a great feeling for those that want to do better than they already do. For example, when you’re working in a mine, it can be pretty hard. The hot cave and your constant sweating can be a delaying factor in finishing your work in one piece. You may drop, but you stand up and finish what you started. Being a hard-worker takes a lot of your time, but this is an essential trait for the common American that describes how they show they are an American.

Now the next one is a negative trait an American. This is the greedy trait that many share, and greed is not nice. If two Americans were offered a raise and the boss tells them that the one that shows more work gets it, than one of them (or both) will cheat their way to get it and not show true honesty. And when the time comes that he has to let a friend borrow money, he won’t. This trait isn’t a blessing to have because this makes people inherit more malevolent traits, and this can tear up relations if there is no trust between the host and the receiver.

The last of the traits I have left to explain is the trait of being free from extreme power. This is important to have because it proves your need for freedom and your determination to get it. This is a realistic example: Before 1776, King George III had control over New England and this area was the future USA. His rule made the colonists mad and many of them hated the King. They wanted war and the U.S. was born. This extreme power is cruel and shall not be tolerated. Tyranny is mad control over every resident and Americans didn’t like it one bit. This is important to Americans because this is the key for survival, and Americans need to survive.

Messages from the Sky

The poem is called “Messages form the Sky: September 11, 2001″, and the author’s name is Fred Moramarco. The day that the world trade center collapsed, was the infamous day of 9/11/2001.  There are some messages from people who weren’t going to make it out alive in whatever trouble they were. These messages are brief good-byes from relatives to their loved ones. The poem is simply about messages from people who can’t make it out alive and are saying their final messages to their family. As I read the poem, I thought about how the ones hearing the messages feel and how they would’ve react if they were talking to the ones in trouble. This poem is a collection of great messages of those how had no choice but to die. This poem made me feel bad for those in trouble, but it also made me feel that those on the other line that were on the safe side had extreme luck not to be in that predicament. I had a favorite line, and this is it: From Thomas Burnett on Flight 93: “I know we’re all going to die; there’s three of us who are going to do something about it. I love you honey.” I chose this line because it explains how some people were going to do something about the crisis before they died. They probably wanted to lessen the crash impact and try to move the plane somewhere else. That showed courage in that man.

I don’t remember exactly where I was when the towers collapsed; I must have been in school in elementary. Anyways, I heard on the news about four planes crashing: one almost crashes near the white house, another in a side of the pentagon, and two in New York at the World Trade Center. I couldn’t feel anything for myself, but for some young Americans dying that way, I felt that is was awful. I mean, why would some Al Qaeda members sacrifice their own lives and take down some Americans in a hijacked plane that are navigated towards important American buildings that are filled with more people, just because it was a demand from Osama Bin Laden? This did not affect my life in particular, but it did to many relatives from those who had dead family members. I say they did no deserve it. I didn’t remember any other details from that day besides the fact that many Americans died. Thus, it still made me feel bad for those that lost a loved one.

If I were trapped in one of the four hijacked planes, I would have died with some dignity. I would’ve convinced some other captives to aid me in beating up the terrorists that prevented us to go to the flight deck and stop the suicidal pilot. I would’ve tried my best and hope that the planes would’ve come to a safe landing. Now if I was in any tower of the World Trade Center, I would’ve focused on how long it would’ve taken for the planes to arrive, and rush out of the tower downward by elevator, or if we would’ve been hit by then, the stairway. I would’ve called any family member closest to New York and tell them I couldn’t live any longer, and that they shouldn’t panic and take it the most calm way possible, that is if I could call them first. Whoever I reached the closest had to spread it to my family and let them know what happened. That is it for me, I hope you enjoyed it!
